My pastel artworks explore color, and how it is influenced by light and shadow. During the past few years, my travels to Iceland, Italy, France and the Caribbean have greatly inspired my work and have assisted me in realizing my goal of conveying the intense pulsations and energy I feel in the world around me.
I was recently juried into the Pastel Society of America, and also was awarded a July 2013 Residency at the Vermont Studio Center. A participant in hundreds of group exhibits, I have had fourteen one-woman shows, and I am the recipient of many awards. My work appears in public and private collections, and in publications.
From Syracuse University, I earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration, as well as a Master of Art Education and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Pennsylvania State University. I have has studied under and have been influenced by Master Pastelists Daniel Green and Richard McKinley. My love of color and light has drawn me to work with students of Henry Hensche and the Cape School of Art (Camille Przewodek, Lois Griffel, and Susan Sarbach).
My preference is to work in plein air. For the past two years, I have participated in Plein Air Brandywine, and I am a participant in the 2013 Paint Snow Hill plein air event.
I have taught on the college and graduate school levels, and currently I teach at Padua Academy.
