Bruce Mcmillan
After a career as a photo-illustrator I evolved to watercolors, to interpreting what I see rather than recording it. I paint both plein air and from my photos. The voice of my plein air painter grandson is always in mind, It`s a painting; you can do anything. I paint daily and post to my blog, even if it`s merely a sketch.
Many years ago, I minored in art at the University of Maine. More recently I`ve taken watercolor workshops with Susan Abbott in the Bahamas and Vermont (both 2015), David Dewey in Maine (2014, 2015, 2017), and another with Dewitt Hardy in Maine (2014). I`ve also taken oil workshops with Todd Bonita in Ogunquit, Maine (2015) and Carol Marine in Texas (2010). I paint weekly with a figure drawing/painting group. My paintings have been exhibited in solo shows, group shows, and in juried exhibitions in Maine and Vermont. My works are in private collections in the US, Canada, Iceland and Switzerland. My watercolors of Olympic curling were featured in a two-page, Arts section front page article with seven photos in the Maine Sunday Telegram, March 18, 2018. During the 2018 Winter Olympics I was commissioned via Tweets by the Captain of the to-be-Gold Medal Men`s Curling Team to paint him and them.
I`m a Signature Member of the Vermont Watercolor Society (VWS), a member of the Plein Air Painters of Maine, and the Art Guild of the Kennebunks (Maine). I`m fortunate to have had a successful career in children`s books with more than forty-five published that garnered many honors and awards, all but two illustrated with my photography. I live in Maine while continuing my visual journey.
