Patricia Doty
I have a long art journey. As a middle and high school student, every year I received scholarships to Herron School of Art (Indianapolis). As an adult, I became a teacher, which turned out to be the best occupation for a military spouse considering all our moves. I began to study art at UNLV until 1979, when we moved to Misawa, Japan. It was there I had the opportunity to study under a Japanese Sumi-e master for 6 years. Upon return to the U.S., I took art courses at Maryland University and the Corcoran, and finally landed at MICA. While I have experience in multiple media (including digital art), about 10 years ago I finally decided to focus on watercolor; I believe because it best connected to my the experiences I had during my six years of study in sum-e while living in Japan. I am the former president of the Annapolis Watercolor Club, a member of MAPAPA (Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association), and last year, I was honored to enter and be selected into my first plein air event, Plein Air Easton. I am a highly driven artist who believes in the importance of art; it connects us all culturally, intellectually and creatively.
