I am originally from Manasquan, NJ, a small beach town at the central Jersey Shore. At the age of ten, I studied painting with the landscape artist Ted Goerschner who taught that an artist must know how to draw or their painting would not be believable. I majored in Illustration at Moore College of Art where I received extraordinary instruction in classical academic figure drawing and painting, later continuing my studies in drawing and painting the figure, portrait, and landscape in oils at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
I strive for a lack of `finish` in my work, the involuntary details that appear with a lighter touch, which I consider a refinement. Using a quick drawing to establish a sense of structure in the work and keeping the touch light and lively, I enjoy the vibrant energy, the power of suggestion of a purely painterly approach when painting.
I have been a selected participant in many regional Plein Air events, most recently the Bucks County Plein Air Festival and the Chestnut Hill Plein Air.
My award winning work is in many private collections and has been exhibited in galleries in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including the Philadelphia Sketch Club, Bridgette Mayer Gallery, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Moore College of Art and Design, James Oliver Gallery, Gold Light Gallery and others.
