Shauna Shane
Artist Statement: Shauna Shanes paintings are saturated with light and color, informed by many years of painting from life. Whether of still life, landscape, animals, or the human figure, Shaunas paintings reflect a solid academic training as well as the ability to communicate the emotion and unique atmosphere of a scene. Associations: Shauna is a Signature Member of the CT Pastel Society, an Elected Artist Member of Lyme Art Association, and an elected and founding member of the CT Plein Air Society. Upon her arrival from Montana in 1988, Shauna founded the Artists Open Studio in Connecticut. AOSCT.org has grown to more than 100 artists in NE Connecticut. Awards: Selected in 2010 as Resident Artist at the New Britain Museum of American Art, Shauna began her career as Resident Artist at Yellowstone National Park. Shauna is represented in collections in the US and around the world, including the Governor Schwinden`s portrait in the Montana State Capitol in Helena. Major juried competitions include Oil Painters of America, Allied Artists of America, Salmagundi, and Knickerbocker Exhibits in New York City. Shauna has received major awards in each of the last eight years of Renaissance in Pastel National Exhibition, and in the 2010, 11, 12, and 2013 Hudson Valley Artists Exhibit. Juried Paint-outs include Brandywine PA, Oct. 2013, St. Petersburg, FL in 2010, and Bradenton, FL in 2011 and 2012. Education: In addition to workshops and master classes from Robert Bateman, Charles Reid, Clyde Aspevig, and Raymond Everett Kinstler, her educational background includes Lyme Academy of Fine Art, UCONN, and Montana State University Of Interest: A popular demonstrator and teacher, Shauna takes pride in her ability to convey to others how to see and understand the visual world in a way that makes their artistic journey enjoyable and productive. A positive and energetic teacher, her versatility is showcased in her effective and inspirational instruction in oil, pastel, and watercolor. Students can join her classes at the Glastonbury Art Guild, the West Hartford Art League, and in her own studio in Storrs, CT.
